Introduction
We are a team of researchers selected to participate in the Virginia Tech REEU Research Program in Blacksburg Virginia this summer. Over the nine week program, we analyzed public perception of the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) – a 303 mile natural gas pipeline which stretches from northern West Virginia to southern Virginia.
Why study the MVP?
The MVP is a very controversial topic across Appalachia and the United States, as pipelines are becoming more prevalent for transportation of water and fossil fuels. The MVP has many impacts including water quality, environmental ecosystems, viewsheds, property value, economic benefits, and land rights.
